Whether or not you truly have a break in the summer, I think years of school train us to see summer time with a sense of wonder and a time for new adventures. Along with treks to the swimming pool and road trips with the family, you might be thinking of setting a few personal intentions for this season. Reading more? Walks in the morning? I know one of mine is to cultivate my in-real-life community. That’s why I love the idea of this blog post! Here’s a laid out plan for you to grow in your faith alongside some of your favorite gals this summer.
When Val released her most recent book Pray Confidently and Consistently, we prayed that it would bring people together. The goal of the book is to help people identify and overcome the obstacles that might be holding them back from a thriving prayer life. When that happens, the floodgates are opened and there’s no limit to what God can do. And while our personal prayer lives are essential to develop, we’ve come to a belief here at Val Marie Paper that we’re not supposed to always go it alone.
God’s Word emphasizes the power that’s unleashed when we pray together. Acts 2:42-47 says that the earliest Christians “devoted themselves to prayer” and that many “signs and wonders were being done… and the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved”. Acts 12:5-17 says, “Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church.” The passage goes on to tell of his miraculous escape involving angels and how he showed up on the believers’ doorstep while they were still praying.
That gets me excited! What might the Lord do in the lives of those around us if we began to boldly and faithfully pray together?
This question is what led us to create the Pray Together Guide as a companion to Pray Confidently and Consistently. It leads groups through the book, to help them develop a habit of prayer and then to evolve into an active prayer group that gets things done in the Kingdom.
Have some anxiety about leading a group? We’ve nicknamed this the “no-fail” guide because we’ve tried to take every possible roadblock away. The 52-page guide is basically a script, requiring no pre-study or coming up with things to say on your part. You’re simply a member of the group that’s setting things into motion.
The thought of praying out loud send you running? Don’t worry! We start out slow. In the first session, there’s only 5 minutes of scheduled group prayer time. Becoming a confident pray-er means starting small.
If you’re reading this blog post, we want to make things even easier for you by providing a $5 off coupon code for the Pray Together Guide. Just type in TOGETHER at checkout. Only one guide is necessary for your group, by the way! But you’ll each want your own copy of the book which you can grab in our shop (signed copy!) or on Amazon.
Are some people popping into your mind that might be interested? Send them a quick text with the link to this blog post. The guide picks up right where I’m leaving off, with all the logistics about how to even find a group and get on the same page.
We’re excited for what the Lord might do through you and your group! If you’re getting started, please send a quick email to info@valmariepaper.com so we can be praying for you!
