I had the best of intentions of writing a full post on all the Advent things and then as I was researching all the “right” things to include in your season, I suddenly got very overwhelmed and hesitated to share too much in case it’d overwhelm you to.
In the same spirit of margin that we talked about in these five posts last year, I’ll forgo the big list and give you 5 different types of resources and my best pick for each. Don’t feel like you need it all. See what fits and remember the whole point of Advent is to point us to Jesus.
I cannot be the only one who tries to cram really holy looking things in all while cursing under my breath or stressing all the way. It’s crazy y’all! We’re just not intended to cram more into this season than God is calling us to.
So maybe before you even read this list, ask the Lord to give you wisdom on what to say yes to and for the ability to give a firm no to the things that won’t edify your season.
BOOK
This is the Christmas Story from She Reads Truth
Confession. Sometimes I buy kid books just so I know how to articulate on their level big God things. It can be hard to have all the right words so I love this book from She Reads Truth.
ACTIVITY
Advent Cards from Crew & Co
I love Advent Cards and they are particularly great for that family with at least one kid with the personality to remind you and get excited every morning for the next card!
MOVIE
Any Veggie Tales Christmas movie
Our family is a sucker for Veggie Tales. I remember my brother watching them when I was younger and will always have a soft spot for them. You can buy or rent several different Christmas stories on Amazon Prime. My favorite is It’s a Meaningful Life.
FOR THE FAMILY
Unwrapping the Names of Jesus by Asheritah Ciuciu
This is a book I’m excited to read this season. We talk a lot about learning the names or attributes of Christ to fill out the Adoration section of our Yearly Prayer Journal so I’m excited to dive into this!! And bonus? Asheritah includes a weekly idea for an activity with the family!
FOR MOMMA
All Good Things Collective Advent Journal
If you like just a little bit of direction, this is the journal for you! Each day contains a one-word theme associated with Advent, a correlating Scripture, and a space for you to ponder, praise, and respond in play.
